There's nothing boring about a year that kicked off with impeachment drama, a long election preamble, and a possible pandemic. But, that's not the type of action that's in any way enjoyable. No, we want our action to be entertaining, and, more importantly, fictional.
So let's escape into some action movies this year, where it's clear that this will be a year of Vin Diesel, a new CGI dog, a live-action version of Mulan, and another chance for Daniel Craig to show off his best sultry James Bond voice. Above all, this year’s action movie lineup drives home one thing that American audiences really love: remakes of popular films from the 1980s and ’90s. We love to see an old hero return back to the screen and to hear a familiar grizzled voice talk about duty, purpose, and saving the world.
1. The Call of the Wild (February 21)
This story follows Buck, a domestic dog who finds himself in the wilds of the Alaskan Yukon in the late 1800s. Based on the 1903 Jack London book of the same name, the movie stars Harrison Ford as Buck’s owner, John Thornton.
2. Bloodshot (March 13)
Vin Diesel stars in Bloodshot as Ray Garrison, a man who was murdered, but is later resurrected by a team of scientists (which sounds like some spooky Buffy the Vampire stuff).
3. The Hunt (March 13)
Loosely based on the 1924 Richard Connell short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” this film is about a group of 12 strangers who wake up in a field, but aren’t sure exactly how they got there. Soon after that, they discover that they are the prey in a hunting game designed by a group of elites.
